Palau – information

PALAU….a small fishing village

Palau was a small fishing village in the late 18th century and has developed into one of the most successful holiday destinations in the north Sardinia. The summertime in Palau revolves entirely around tourism and the port.

From the port is possible to board ferries to the island La Maddalena and from the marina, rent rib boats and  sailing boats to visit the Archipelago, the island Santo Stefano and Corsica. Diving and snorkeling services are available too.

Four km. away from the town at 120m. above the sea, there’s the natural granite monument “The Bear Rock”, iconic symbol of Palau and amazing sightseeing point that dominates the town, the sea and the islands all the way to Corsica.

Ten minutes away from the town, on the way to Porto Rafael, there’s a choice of historical fortresses Monte Altura, the vedette sentry Punta Sardegna and Batteria Talmone Heritage of Fai Sardegna.

In the inland going towards Monti Canu, there are various archeological sites: Tomba dei Giganti Li Mizzani e Sajacciu close to the country church San Giorgio.

For watersport lovers the recommended location is Porto Pollo, ideal for windsurf and kitesurf.
